Thanks to John Almasy, who hunted down these photos of the tornado that passed through the neighborhood on August 13, 1943. Mother Nature isn't picky when it comes to striking. We are fortunate to have not just one, but two warning systems in the area. In addition to the downtown sirens which warn of severe weather, we will now be alerted by a new alarm system which was recently installed at The Timken Company. It will be used in the event of severe weather and other emergencies, such as fire, which affect the Timken plant. You may have heard the testing of this system back in August. The dogs in the neighborhood howled for fifteen minutes after the sirens ended. While sirens can't help the damage that high winds and torrential rains do to buildings, they do allow people the time needed to find shelter and protect our most precious possessions, our lives. Next time, and every time you hear the alarms, take notice, and take cover. |
